Project: Recreational Building System for Children
Client: ZinkoTek, www.zinkotek.com

Challenge
Utilize the client’s Mexico-based, EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) factory to produce a modular building system for kids.

Process
During DCI’s design phase, rapid prototypes and then pre- production samples were produced concurrently in our China model shop, leading to seamless pre- production samples, tooling, and manufacturing in China for plastic parts and in Mexico for EVA parts. DCI also developed easy-to-follow pictorial building instructions and various feature builds for product line extensions and packaging art. For maximum play value, the primary I-beam block was engineered strong enough to build freestanding structures that kids can sit on and stand in. To lengthen market opportunity the construction system uses a patented matrix for its infinite building options.

Result
The ZinkoTek construction system was chosen as one of the top 10 worldwide new toy products on the Regis and Kelly Show from the 2008 Toy Fair. Sales through educational and high end retail distribution channels are building steadily.
